U.S. and South Korea agree on military cooperation
Pentagon chief Leon Panetta said the U.S. would continue building a global missile defense and its accommodation facilities in Asia, including South Korea. "The Republic of Korea and the U.S. continue dialogue on missile defense in order to ensure the protection, consistent with the missile threat from North Korea" - Panetta said after talks with South Korean counterpart in Washington. In turn, the Korean Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin said that North Korea continues to pose a significant threat to security in the region and continues to prepare for the new test missile and nuclear weapons. The two ministers said that they intend to work on the resolution of the Korean problem in the framework of the "six" of international mediators. North Korea declared itself a nuclear power in 2005. In 2006 and 2009, Pyongyang carried out nuclear tests, for which the UN Security Council responded with sanctions.
