BP will pay U.S. authorities a fine of $ 4.5 billion

For the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, BP will pay U.S. $ 4.5 billion

     $ 4.5 billion to the U.S. authorities agreed to pay the oil company BP as a penalty for an oil spill in an accident on its platform in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. BP signed a corresponding agreement with the Ministry of Justice. The company pleaded guilty to criminal negligence on 11 counts related to the causes of the oil spill on the platform "Deepwater Horizon" and the deaths of 11 workers in the accident.

     
U.S. Justice Department in exchange for a guilty plea and agreed to pay a fine to refuse the further prosecution of the company. BP has agreed to pay $ 4 billion for environmental damage. Another 525 million dollars will be paid as a penalty on the claims filed by the Securities and Exchange. BP will transfer those amounts in installments over six years. Agreement with the Ministry of Justice will allow BP to resolve the issue of payment of claims by the U.S. federal government.

     
However, so far unresolved question concerning the amount of claims that are filed against BP four southeastern U.S. states, the coast which was hit by the oil spill. Penalty that BP has agreed to pay U.S. federal authorities, was the largest in the history of the country in criminal compensation claims. The amount of compensation for private suits individuals and companies is estimated at $ 7.8 billion.
